Rock Island County Board to Extend Deadline for the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze from July 1, 2020 to October 1, 2020

As our community continues to feel the increased impact of COVID-19, we feel it is important to share with you what we are doing to help our customers and staff stay safe and healthy.

We have all seen the news regarding the COVID-19 and I wanted to let you know that Rock Island County is staying up to date with the latest news regarding this virus. We are listening to what local and national authorities advise as we determine any necessary response.

Regarding the Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption, the Illinois Property Tax Code provides that "[a] county may, by ordinance, establish a date for submission of applications that is different than July 1" (35 ILCS 200/15-172(c)).

In order to reduce the number of persons at "higher risk" from traveling to the County Assessment Office during the next few months, the Rock Island County Board will be voting on an ordinance March 24, 2020, that will allow the Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption deadline date to be extended from July 1, 2020, to October 1, 2020. Any other renewals for homestead exemptions can be mailed to our office. If you have questions, feel free to call us at (309) 558-3650, or email Larry Wilson ([email protected]) Click to send e-mail

We will be conducting most business by phone and email. We will keep you updated on a regular basis of any new developments.

Please continue to use common sense for keeping each other and ourselves healthy. Wash your hands regularly. Cough or sneeze into your elbow. Take care of yourself by eating healthy and drinking plenty of fluids.

Please stay safe and healthy during this unprecedented time.
