Appeals

The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice is pleased to provide instructions and standardized court forms for use in the filing of an appeal.

When you visit the Appeals section of the Approved Statewide Forms webpage and browse to the Notice of Appeal section, there are instructions and forms available to file an appeal. Each type of case has different time constraints and document requirements to be included in the record. There are no filing fees to file a notice of appeal in the circuit court but there is a fee to prepare the record to be submitted to the appellate court. The fee is only for civil cases and not for preparation of a criminal case. Please see our fees section for preparing the record.

Electronically filing a notice of appeal is mandatory in civil cases. Our office has an area for self-represented litigants on third floor of the courthouse or you may file the notice at any computer with internet access. Click here  to find out more information and electronically file your documents.

When you are required to obtain copies of transcripts, you may make the request from the court reporter who was present at the hearing at 309-786-4451 ext. 3931. In civil cases after all necessary documents are received and the fees submitted, the clerk will submit the record to the appellate court.
